Implants

An implant is usually a screw made of titanium or ceramic. Implants can be used to replace missing teeth. An implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone, where it serves as a replacement for a lost tooth root. Dental prostheses, for example a crown or bridge, are then attached to this so-called artificial abutment.

Implant technology can be used to replace a single tooth, fill a gap (two or more teeth), supplement a shortened row of teeth, restore a completely edentulous jaw.

In single tooth replacement, an implant solution has the advantage that no healthy neighboring teeth have to be ground down, which significantly improves the long-term prognosis of these teeth.
significantly improved. In addition, implant-supported bridges or dentures usually ensure better chewing function.
Patients usually feel very secure with implant restorations, as such dentures usually feel like their own teeth.
Modern implant treatment began about 40 years ago. At that time, implants were mainly used for patients with edentulous mandibles. Today, around 90,000 dental implants are placed in Switzerland every year.
